Title: Picture Puzzle Race
Objective:
This team-building activity aims to foster collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills among team members.
The activity involves solving picture puzzles as a team in a race against the clock.
Materials:
- Picture puzzles (Printed images or digital files).
- Timer or stopwatch.
- Pen and paper (optional).
Instructions:
- Divide the participants into teams of 4 to 6 members each. If the group is small, you can have one large team. Ensure each team has a mix of individuals from different departments or backgrounds to encourage cross-functional collaboration.
- Prepare the picture puzzles: Gather a set of picture puzzles for each team. These puzzles can be images that are cut into smaller pieces or digitally divided into sections.
- Set up the race area: Choose a space large enough for all the teams to work simultaneously. Place the picture puzzles and any required materials (paper and pen) on separate tables for each team.
- Explain the rules:
a. Each team will receive one picture puzzle.
b. The goal is to reconstruct the picture within a specified time (e.g., 10 minutes).
c. Only team members are allowed to participate in the puzzle-solving; no external help is permitted.
d. Each team must appoint a team leader to facilitate communication and keep track of the time. - Start the race: When the timer starts, all teams begin solving their respective puzzles. They must work together to figure out the correct arrangement of the pieces.
- Facilitate communication: Observe the teams during the activity and encourage them to communicate effectively, exchange ideas, and assign roles based on individual strengths.
- Hints (optional): If a team is struggling excessively, you can offer a limited number of hints to get them back on track. However, use hints sparingly to maintain the challenge.
- Time’s up: When the allocated time is over, ask the teams to stop working, regardless of their puzzle’s completion status.
- Evaluation and Debrief:
a. Gather all teams together and evaluate their progress. Celebrate the teams that completed their puzzles.
b. Lead a group discussion to share the experiences and challenges faced during the activity.
c. Ask questions to prompt discussions, such as:- What strategies did the successful teams use to complete their puzzles?
- How did communication within the team impact their performance?
- What role did each team member play in contributing to the overall success?
- Were there any roadblocks, and how did the teams overcome them?
d. Highlight the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and leveraging individual strengths to achieve common goals.
